A quick look around the Internet and you will find literally thousands upon thousands of Adsense tips out there. It seems like everyone has something to say when it comes to improving performance and earning more money.
Of course, that does not mean that everyone actually knows what they are talking about, or that their strategies will work for you. It is best to stick with the tried and true winners, including placement targeting, to increase the likelihood of success.
Placement targeting is all about defining certain segments of your website to help Adsense advertisers better understand the space that you have available The more specific you are in your definition, the easier it will be for potential advertisers.
When setting up your ads, you will first create a channel, or category, and then will be able to set up placement targeting. Under the Channel tab, find the channel that you want to set up placement targeting for. Click on "Edit Settings" on the far right side of the screen.
You will come to a screen that looks like this where you will first check the box that says "Show this channel to advertisers as an ad placement."
Then you will fill in 3 areas:
Click Save Channel and you are all set. After you set up this Adsense tip, an advertiser that sees your website and your performance will be able to choose exactly where they want their advertisements displayed. They might want to branch out with maximum exposure, and choose a leaderboard advertisement that cuts across your entire website. Or they might want to be more specific, and only advertise to people that read your sports pages, or only advertise to your business readers, and only on the sidebar.
With this increased level of detail and specificity, everybody gets more of what they're looking for, and you can earn more money because advertisers love being able to select and target their audiences and intended usages as much as possible. So while you learn more about your own advertisements, the advertisers themselves learn more, and they use that information to bid for and purchase ads which are more valuable to them, and earn more money for you. That's what Adsense tips should be all about!
